Libs & NDP Should Merge - Centre-Left Liberal Democratic Party

John Ryan, a retired professor suggested in Counter Punch and also published in The Tyee that the Federal Liberals and the NDP should merge. He also sent the same suggestion to all the federal NDP and Liberal MPs as well. His expressed concern is that the Conservatives are a “chilling echo of the USA's Republican Party” and “is poised for a two-stage attack to reshape Canada in line with it's Canadian version of America's neoconservative ideology”. While his concerns may be viewed by many as overly dramatic, there is interesting merit in his suggestion. Is Canada ready for essentially a two party system similar to the USA? Would this be more beneficial for Canada and Canadians? Could a united Centre-Left Liberal Democratic Party provide a staging point and a home for all Progressive Canadians?
